IS THIS REALLY MY INVITATION?

Hello there,

Well here I am again with more from my campaign. I have chosen to stay with the subject of INVITATIONS. This time however, the comments are more for the sender than the recipient.
So, have you ever wondered what someone was thinking when they were addressing that envelop? Have you even been angry at the spelling of your name, have you ever been
demoted on the back of an envelope? If you answered yes to any of the above then you feel my pain.

If you ever have the need to send out invitations:

1. ALWAYS draft the list of your invitees and crosscheck the spellings. It is extremely offensive to a good number of people when their names are misspelt especially by people who know them personally and should have known better. It is not okay that you used the Fanti spelling instead the Asanti one, or the Ga spelling instead of the Ewe one! That is precisely the kind of mediocrity that is slowing down our national development.

2.CHECK titles. People put in a lot of back breaking work to earn their titles..Dr, Prof, Justice, H.E. etc Please respect their efforts by taking time to get it right, even if it means placing calls to their offices to ask!!!!!!!Depending on the nature of the occasion and whether or not you can be personal you just might be safest titling everyone as Uncle, Aunty, Grandma. Grandpa etc. However on most occasions its best to keep to proper formality.

3. MORE THAN ONE: Except for business invitations, about 70% of event invitations are sent to couples of one sort or the other. Please please please if you are going to invite a spouse or partner then again, CHECK!

DR MENSAH & WIFE is wrong!

MRS MENSAH & HUSBAND is worse

INSPECTOR & MRS MENSAH (RTD) is bad news.- His wife is not a retired inspector!

BROTHER & MRS MENSAH ( Highest offenders in churches)

Try the following instead

DR & MRS MENSAH

MR & MRS MENSAH

INSPECTOR (RTD) & MRS MENSAH

Brother Mensah has a title. Find it or call him a MR!

I will be back, but in the mean time you can be sure that this was written

With all my love

YSO
